My free subscription to Norton Internet Security will be expiring soon and I'm looking at alternatives.
From everything I've read, and the positive feedback of the users here, I'm going to give the Microsoft Security Essentials a go for anti-virus. Looking at (free) firewall software, in the review sites I viewed, by far the top three in order of popularity seem to be:

I use MSE, and the standard Windows Firewall. Unless you need an OUTOING firewall, the Windows Firewall in Windows is sufficient.

If you are using a router you do not need software.. Otherwise like Ken said just use the Windows Firewall..
