Default Office 2010/2007 vs 2003

I still can't get used to the new ribbon bar in either of the two new Office suites. Therefore I'm still using Office 2003, which I find works just fine and doesn't slow me down. Anyone agree/disagree?

We have a customer looking for several copies of Office 2003 right now. We can get them as a downgrade with the 2010 version but holy cow is it ever expensive!

I'd say keep the 2003 version if you like it. It should work just fine and the compatibility patch allows most newer files to be used without too many problems. The newer stuff is ok but a lot of people really dislike it and all we hear are negative things. Open Office has picked up a lot of ground since Office 2007 was released.

What I like about Office 2010 is that the old menus are back once you turn them on. I hated the ribbon in Office 2007, hence why I stayed away from it. The functionality of Office 2010 is leaps and bounds ahead of 2007 so I'm looking forward to giving it a try (but not until I am forced to = this fall). Until I test drove 2010 there was no reason to use MS Office over Open Office when I had a choice, the new features in 2010 are going to make that a lot harder for me to do (at least at work where MS products are shoved down my throat).

For anyone that is using Office for the first time, the Ribbon is probably easier to use than the menus in 2003 and earlier. For most of us, however, not only have we been using the older styles menus forever, but every other application out there still uses them, so its more difficult, and awkward to keep switching back and forth.

Jack: I haven't looked at Office 2010 yet - what is so much better over 2007?

Wait a minute! Where are those menus? How do you turn them on? I have a copy of 2010 here, and I don't see those old menus at all. Would love it if they did indeed exist. The ribbon bar has been modified, yes, but so far as I can see, it's still the ribbon bar.

Get Volume licensing.. You only need 1 media..

The only problem I have is that I support people with both versions (2003 and 2007). The people with 2007 forget to 'save as' the .DOC format and the others cannot read the .docx....

I switched to Office 7, early last year. I use it, but I hate it. It has been like learning a foreign language, Klingon. I don't use it every day, just for some home office stuff.
