We've been using Go Daddy for one of our sites since September of 2009. It's on a Linux server and takes care of the site, e-mail, databases and the new online store.
We also have another 6 sites being hosted by Comcast. So far everything has been running pretty good. I think the oldest site there is about 12 years old. Jon. |

Comcast seems to do ok with basic sites. I'd say for most home users they couldn't get much better considering it's included with the price of the internet service.
We do have one customer with a business class account that we are going to move to Go Daddy this month. It's an auto service shop and they are quickly out growing Comcast. Jon. |

It's really tough to find a good web host, and they're really important, so first-hand reports are useful. I'm using a company called alwayswebhosting, but I can't say I recommend them any more.

I would say the first thing to consider when picking any hosting company is to get the shortest contract available or no contract at all. Companies come and go, policies change and customer service could be great one day and terrible the next. Getting stuck with a bullet proof contract and a provider you hate would the be the worst case scenario.

I use justhost.com as a sharedhosting package. I have used it for about a year to host some wordpress cms things that I try to do. For the most part their hosting is good and reliable, if a bit slow (but I guess I get what I pay for). Although when I have had problems I have not been thrilled by their customer service. I don't know much about web hosting, but one about four months ago I found my website down. I went to a local coffee shop to change my ip and internet service provider to see if it was just me, or if it was really down. It was down there too, and I wrote to customer support to tell them my problem. They wrote back and said the site was up on their end. I was appalled because I checked it again and it was still down. I wrote them again about the problem and never heard back from them. In about an hours time the site was back up and running.
I plan on switching to a virtual private server when my traffic starts to pick up, or when my hosting plan runs out, or whatever happens first. |

Currently waiting for our contract with Hostway to expire so we can move elsewhere. While Hostway may at one time have been the premier host, that is no longer the case. I learned the hard way earlier this year that their customers needs are the lowest of their priorities and should your site be under attack good luck getting any assistance from them, including server logs when law enforcement intervenes. While their corporate address is still in Chicago it appears they've moved everything offshore and have nothing more than a mailbox in the US.
