Has anyone seen one of these things? They sure are expensive. If they came with Steve Jobs bringing me breakfast, I might be tempted. But really, what's the fuss?

I spend "too much" time on the Internet already, and my smartphone has Web access too! So, I have an Amazon Kindle 2 because I read a lot and its screen is ideal for that.

I've yet to see a Kindle. I have to get my hands on one. I've heard the screen is actually more suited to reading than is the screen on the iPad.

To me the ROI on an iPad just isn't worth it.
I have a blackberry with internet access, and an iPod touch which is great because it does everything the iPad does but it's portable! I also have a Kindle 2 and absolutely love it. The e-ink is perfect for reading and another great features of the Kindle is the 3G web access at no additional monthly charge. You can't beat that! The free Kindle iPod touch app lets me sync my books to that device so I can read even if I'm out and don't have the Kindle with me.

Yes, it is worth it. I'm not an Apple fan, but the iPad may change my mind. Its good for a sales session at Starbucks, it draws attention at events. I've seen a few wedding photographers selling them as part of an album package. It's great for consuming content, not really for creating it.

WE have the 64gig 3g/wifi
It is a pretty cool toy, but does not replace our laptop We got ours mostly for photo viewing and for that it is amazing. I find the wifi side of it has a very limited range and gets almost no signal in parts of our house, while the macbook is full strength everywhere including outside on our patio Would I buy it again, probably, but not the 64gig |

I agree with this completely, and that's why, for me personally, it's not worth the cost.
For many of my friends and family that are not tech savvy and do little more than use their PCs for web browsing, e-mail and the occasional document, I think the iPad is much more worth while. Interestingly, I remember about 5 years or so ago, Bill Gates doing a demo of a prototype tablet PC that to me was eerily similar to the iPad, but that never went anywhere, and few people even seem to remember it anymore.

One thing that took me by surprise is that they loose about 10% for the operating system, so my 64 gig is really about a 59gig. I called apple and they said up to 10% is normal and expected

I haven't seen an iPad. I read a lot. It is easier to read on a Kindle than a printed book. That plus all its other features makes it terrific. I will give it up for a better mousetrap but I don't think that is an iPad, because for starters I don't want anything larger than the Kindle 2.
