Hi, I'm a retired ME and a CIO (California Improved Okie) that retired in Medellin, Colombia S.A. primarily because my wife is Colombian from a large professional family (medical) and won't leave as long as her parents are alive.
I'm a 4th generation Californian, born in Bakersfield. I have spent over 50 years in the energy field primarily waste energy recovery and utilization and hold several energy related patents worldwide to recover waste energy such as "flare gas" from oil production and recovery of methane from "sanitary landfills". I have been in Colombia for 11 years, first 5 years I owned a computer store here importing systems from Asia....had to do something as my wife was still working and i was bored. I say semi-retired because my 2 partners (US) and myself just bought a huge rancho in Colombia, 106,000 acres and will build a processing plant for processing Stevia (natural sweetener). This will be the greenest facility in Colombia utilizing my 50 years of experience such as "anaerobic digesters" for methane fuel, waste heat extraction for processing etc. Initially we will plant over 100 acres to harvest 4 tons per day of Stevia leaves. Retirement is TOO boring for me. __________________

Wow, Sidebyte! You have some kind of resume! Kinda reminds me of some of the old Clark Gable and Stewart Granger characters in those old adventure movies! I'm sure you'll have lots of knowledge to pass on. I've had the privilege of meeting many interesting people as I've traveled in places like, for example, Mexico, Guatemala, Northwest Territories and Australia. Buena suerte, amigo!

Thanks fellow members, I have worked in 24 different countries, and about 40 stats in the U.S.
I thoroughly enjoy living in Colombia (private compound), the weather, the food and a lot of doing much of NOTHING now. http://images.fotopic.net/fullsize/13a95j.jpg |
