Okay, I have priced a Dell Latitude with an i5-450M CPU, 3GB RAM, 250GB HD, Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit w/XP Mode Installed, and the system restore CDs, for $1,103.00.

That is about $125 more than the HP. The HP would have a 500GB HD and 4GB RAM, but what I use the laptop for won't need those extra capacities.

The Dell is also slightly smaller/slimmer and lighter than the HP, which is also not that important.

Finally, I have just considered Dell to be a better system for so long I can't get myself to switch.

Ya pays yer money and takes yer chances................My wife could break a "canonball" if given time.

I still have several old laptops and all are subject to old age failure, cables, screens etc. 99% of all laptop manufactures buy their major components from the same component manufactures, screens, media drives, hard drives etc. so none are bullet proof. I think the best laptop I ever bought was a Sager, built in the USA (not too sure about all the components though).
All of the current crop of laptops are essentially the same if the same speed CPU, ram and all are very good.

I am curious though why all the major manufactures are still putting dial-up modems in computers, who uses them except for the odd person who faxes. I would much rather have a firewire port or external Sata port?

On any systems that I have priced, where I can Customize the system, a modem has been an option priced under $30.

Laptops are often used in the field by technicians, and need a modem for assorted needs.
