And eBay these days is not great for getting rid of old computer equipment, if it ever was. All depends on the equipment, of course.

eBay has always presented me with problems. I used to buy some camera equipment on eBay, a Linhof 4x5 Technikardan for example that was advertised as in excellent condition, but it cost me another $250 to put it into the condition that I consider to be excellent. It wasn't worth the effort to argue the point, but I have learned that it is always best to see and feel the equipment you are buying. That was some time ago, but I don't suspect that things have improved that much if at all. I will hold on to the equipment and computers until I can find them a good home where they will get some work.

I had a computer store here in Colombia for 5 years and when i closed the store I had a gazillion parts left over so even today after 5 years after the closing I still have a bunch of old crap. I built up computers out of old and new parts and give them to the poor kids here in Colombia for educational purposes (ahem, I'm sure they never play solitaire).
I recently gave an entire system to my maid (she has 3 kids) and they share with their neighbor kids, they live in some row houses, many children. I also gave some systems to the local grade schools.

They become worthless too quickly to keep around.
