Default Speech recognition

Anyone using speech on their computers? It's been a while for me, and I know Windows 7 now has it built in. Not sure about Mac. But I do wonder whether it's worth the effort to investigate again.

All I can say is, a couple of years ago, I was trying Naturally Speaking (was it Dragonware?), on my XP computer but in the few hours I spent trying to get it to type what I was saying, it seemed pretty clear that I'd probably be better off typing, because it would take longer to correct the errors of that speech recognition system than to just type the stuff. But I guess they keep making improvements. I may try it again, but I am resisting going to Windows 7, will stick with Win XP because of Micro$oft's invasive policies that offend my sense of privacy.

I use Dragon Naturally Speaking on and off. It took me far longer to train the software than advertised by the website, probably about 15 hours. I still get the occasional error, but I can talk much faster than I can type, which is about 60-65 words a minute, and the software is about 95% accurate for me.

I don't know about the Windows 7 version. I have never tried it before.

I think you've convinced me to have another go at it. We have version 7, which is a bit old. But I think version 9 is out there.

It seems that the training of the system hasn't changed in many years and has always been difficult for many. I'm just happy that my car (and smartphone) can obey so many voice commands.
