Default Search engines other than Google

Do you ever go beyond Google? If so, which search engines do you find useful?

I recently stumbled upon PDFgeni, for instance, a search engine with a twist: it catalogues only PDF files. Since most user manuals are published as PDFs, it's a great resource for locating hard-to-find tech manuals or any other document that might be stored somewhere on the Internet as a PDF file.

Interesting find. I'll have to check that out. In the past I've done lots of searches for pdf's with limited success.

Jon.

Another find: Collecta.

Traditional search engines, which alregely rely on store and retrieve technology, aren't good at indexing up-to-the-minute changes on social networking sites. Collecta is.

Collecta specialises in "real time search," and it focuses on those sites where information is continually updated--specifically social networking sites, news sites, and blogs.
What's more, Collecta continually updates its search results, and you can see those results being updated in real time. It's a far cry from the constant refreshing you would need to do at most search engines.

Collecta isn't the only search engine doing real-time search. IceRocket and OneRiot have similar missions, scouring the "realtime web" and presenting you the results.

Default Copernic

I have found that in searching for genealogy related information especially, Copernic will provide information that Google won't retrieve.

However for general searching, Copernic seems to provide too many choices.

I still use what they're now calling Copernic Agent. The "desktop" tool I've had to delete because it interfered with Outlook--I've forgotten how.
